Katowice Special Economic Zone composes a part of Polish Systems of Economic Zones called by the Council of Ministers. The Zone was created in 1996 for the period of 20 years ( until 8 August 2016) to support and accelerate the conversion process of the obsolete silesian industry and do create new job places. Katowice Special Economic Zone is the largest from 14 polish economic zones concerning the number of companies (16% of the all polish companies), invested capital (over 25% of capital expenditure in all zones), created jobs (over 22%). So far, Katowice Special Economic Zone, has lured over 170 companies and created more than 35 000 new job places ( based on informatory “The Zone” April 2008).
The Zone is distracted into many separated locations. Katowice Special Economic Zone consists of 4 subzones: Gliwicka, Jastrzębsko - Żorska, Sosnowiecko- Dąbrowska, Tyska. The City Katowice has already covered 21, 3295 ha of area.
According to the polish legal system, new location for the investor can be established in case of creation at least 250 job places or investment at least 155 mln zlotys (aprox. 40 mln euro) in regions where the unemployment rate is lower than the national average. In regions where the unemployment rate is larger the minimal demands concerning the investment project are lower.
Special Economic Zone is mostly destined for manufacturing enterprises but also for selected, high-tech services.
The most important investments in Special Economic Zone are: GM Opel, Fiat – GM Powertrain, Guardian, NGK Ceramics, Isuzu Motors, Delphi, Bremo.

Financial benefits for areas incorporated in zone:
1. BASED UPON INVESTMENT COSTS:
The total amount of tax relief is up to
40 % of investment costs (for large enterprises),
50 % of investment costs (for medium enterprises) and
60 % of investment costs (for small enterprises),
2. BASED UPON CREATION OF NEW JOBS:
The total amount of tax relief is up to:
40 % of two-year labour cost for new jobs created (for large enterprises),
50 % of two-year labour cost for new jobs created (for medium enterprises) and 60 % of two-year labour cost for new jobs created (for small enterprises).
For entrepreneurs who set up the business in zone CIT (Corporate Income Tax) is guaranteed as well as a Real Estate Tax Exemption is possible. The Special Economic Zone Employees help investors in acquiring grounds and buildings, offers them trainings and consulting services. The zone has also possibility to rent offices and storehouses.
Corporate Income Tax Relief:
40% - big enterprises
50% - medium enterprises
60% - small enterprises
In order to:
Investment costs - qualified costs made within the Zone. More benefitial for industrial projects.

Two year labour costs - Salary costs for new employed staff. More benefitial for BPO projects
The Tyska Subzone ( According to the disposition of The Council of Ministers dated on 2 of April 2006 about Katowice Special Economic Zone, Dz.U. 2006 nr 202, poz. 1485) in the “region Katowice” includes following complexes:
a) complex 1 ( “Altus” Uniwersytecka Street) 0,8698 ha,
b) complex 2 ( “Chorzowska 50”), 2,2158 ha,
c) complex 3 ( Rozdzieńska Street, Obrońców Westreplatte Street), 4,9707 ha
In 2008 by virtue of the disposition of The Council of Ministers dated on 22 of July 2008 changing disposition about Katowice Special Economic Zone (Dz.U. 2008, nr 140, poz. 884) the following areas has been incorporated:
a) complex 5 (Zabrska Street, Dąbrówki Street), 1,4701 ha
b) complex 13 ( Konduktorska Street), 1,3 ha
c) complex 14 ( Armii Krajowej Street, Kościuszki Street), 8,9560 ha
d) complex 15 ( Grabowa Street), 0,3482 ha
e) complex 16 ( Chorzowska Street, Węglowa Street), 1,1989 ha
