Three Wise Men Parade in Katowice

One and a half million of participants in 420 Polish cities and towns in 2016 – these are the impressive statistics related to the procession of the Magi – the biggest Christmas Nativity Play in the world, which will take place in Katowice.

The Three Kings' processions, which have been travelling through Poland for nine years, refer to a beautiful tradition of singing together carols and performing the Nativity Play – a performance which recounts the story of the Nativity of Jesus Christ and a tribute paid to Him in a barn by the shepherds and the Magi. Interestingly enough, the Shrine of the Three Kings is kept in Cologne – a partner city of Katowice, in St. Peter and Mary's Cathedral. The aim of the parade is, among others, to restore the tradition of joint celebration and carol singing as well as encourage people to spend this time with their relatives. A lot of families prepare for it through the whole Advent season. Parents help their children to make costumes and children focus on the characteristic elements of each of the three groups – says Małgorzata Kopeć, one of the parade organizers.

It is very easy to join the procession, just come on 6th January at 1 pm at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Katowice. The procession will walk through the city centre to reach the NOSPR building where the event will finish with carol singing. The theme of this year's edition is 'peace and goodness'. The screenplay is linked to the stories of Creation and Paradise.

The Parade schedule:
