NIKISZOWIEC Housing Estate

Those who would like to learn more about the history of the city from the perspective of community inhabiting the patronage worker's housing estate, are welcomed to take an interactive walk along the streets of Nikiszowiec. It has been organized by the artists of the Wyspiański Silesian Theatre and is entitled „Nie z tej ziemi” (at 12 a.m. , 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.)

For the youngest group the organizer has prepared four city games! Next, there will be a chance to jointly build a model of Nikiszowiec and take part in a museum game devoted to the designers and constructors of the housing estate - Zillmann cousins, or in a quiz with prizes. In the afternoon children will visit an old mangle room and finally they will make some creatures and monsters.

You will be able to listen to the legend about the treasurer twice – at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. designed in the form of the Japanese illustration theatre called Kamishibai. It is sufficient to have a platform,a book, acting skills and a good story to tell – and there are plenty of them here!

Everyone can enjoy a guided tour of the gallery. Another interesting event will be a lecture (2 p.m.) on industrial architecture in Upper Silesia. What's more – one day earlier, i.e. on Friday the 9th Art Naif Festival will start as a part of ”machines start-up phase”. It is a great holiday of art from all over the world. Almost during the entire vacation, in the former bathouse area there will be presented pictures and other works of art created by non-professional artists, i.e. such artists who lack the formal education and training but can feel the art. This year the theme of the entire festival is connected with Spain, so there will be a good opportunity to admire beautiful paintings filled with the southern sun and energy. The exhibition will be open for visitors from 2 p.m. and at the same time children will be able to create a comic about Silesia, take part in an outdoor game, learn to play instruments made of vegetables and make a collage about the Janowska Group. There will also be art workshops, a shadow theatre and backyard games for kids.

There will be a unique opportunity to travel by „Balkan” train  with the Silesian Theatre actors (from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.) or take part in Nordic Walking following ”the footsteps of Zillmann” (at 2 p.m.). For children art workshops (from 2 pm.) and creativity workshops (from 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.) have been planned. You can also admire photography exhibition or participate in the Open Day to celebrate 30th anniversary of the Maria Trzcińska-Fajfrowska Rehabilitation and Education Centre (ul.Gościnna 8). The concert of Siudma Góra band will take place at the end of the event (7 p.m.).

This historical factory where porcelain was produced in the past has often served as a venue for a wide variety of intriguing cultural events such as shows or concerts. During INDUSTRIADA the interior of the magnificent building will be filled with electronic music. You will have a good time listening and dancing to DJs sets from 8 p.m. till late hours. Earlier, from 12 a.m. there will be a chance to take part in model making workshops, enter ”the escape room”, see a porcelain firing show (from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.), a photography exhibition or visit a factory (from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.).

It is one of those places where the industrial heritage of the region is particularly visible. The characteristic fittings, vast spaces, a cobblestone floor, stuffy air and numerous machines – make a tremendous impression on visitors. The guides will help you learn more about this mysterious place (from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.). Every hour renovated machines will be put into operation. For children workshops will be available from 2 p.m. You can also see interesting exhibitions and films about industry.

The industrial monuments enthusiasts will have the opportunity to visit glass structures of the new museum situated on the area of the former “Katowice” coal-mine. Today, the only traces on the revitalised sites are its post-industrial buildings dated from the 19th century and a great tower of the “Warsaw” shaft. All the premises contain real “mining treasures” that you will be able to see (from 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.), take a lift in the tower to marvel at the view over the city (till 9 p.m.), participate in workshops on machineries (from 2 to 8 p.m.). At 5 p.m. the performance entitled “The Form of Things. About Coal and Porcelain” as well as video documentation will be presented.

It is here that a great concert entitled: ”Race. The Songs of Anthracite” will be organised to close the “INDUSTRIADA” event. It will tell stories about the community and the mining spirit. You will be able to listen to various compositions from all over the world, collected by Adolf Dygacz and George Korson - the famous American ethnographer, many of which have been popularised by artists such as: Johny Cash, Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs or The Dubliners. The repertoir involves old songs of Silesia, America and the British Isles.

The beginning of the final concert: 9:30 p.m.
