2009 CEV Orlen Women's European Championships
For many years Katowice has been the Polish capital of volleyball. It has hosted the finals of the World League twice as well as dozens of other volleyball meetings.
In September 2009 the legendary „Spodek” Sports and Entertainment Arena will host another international event.
The 2009 Women’s European Volleyball Championships will be held for the first time in Poland and the host cities include: Katowice, Wrocław, Bydgoszcz and Łódź.

The teams of the Preliminary Pool D: Azerbaijan, Serbia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic will play in the „Spodek” Arena from 25 to 27 of September 2009.

The teams allocated to the Preliminary Pools (A,B,C and D) shall compete following the principle „one against each other” in one single round. From each Preliminary Pool 3 (three) teams will be qualified to the Playoff Pools (E ,F). The Playoff Pools will be played in Łódź and Katowice.

The 3 (three) winning teams of Pool D playing in Katowice will be joined by 3 (three) winning teams of Pool B: Germany, France, Turkey and Italy playing in Wrocław.

These matches will be played in the “Spodek” Arena from 29 September to 1 October 2009.
The final matches will be played in Łódź.
